As part of the “Smart Cities Model Projects” funding program, initiated by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and KfW, Berlin is developing a new and ambitious smart city strategy. Berlin is working to define what the term “smart city” specifically means for this city and its citizens. The strategy development process has a strong focus on participation, people and values, and is being developed in close cooperation with Berlin’s diverse urban society. Serving as the central point of contact for the various stakeholder groups involved in Berlin’s journey to becoming a smart city, CityLAB is coordinating the broader participatory development process of the smart city strategy.
