Starting Point
Berlin offers a wealth of discounted or free services that could benefit many people—yet they are often little known. This is where Fairgnügen comes in: the platform brings these offers together in one central location and makes them easily accessible. It enables citizens with low incomes to participate more easily in social life. Whether it’s museum visits or sports courses, Fairgnügen showcases Berlin’s diversity in a clear and accessible way, all with a single click.
Project Goal
The platform is designed for over 700,000 Berliners who receive social benefits, simplifying access to Berlin’s wide variety of opportunities. The goal is to remove barriers and increase the use of cultural, educational, and recreational activities through a digital, user-friendly platform.

Approach
Fairgnügen relies on a user-friendly web application with search functions, filters, and georeferencing to make services accessible based on users’ life situations and interests. It is the first prototype from CityLAB to be successfully integrated into berlin.de—a key step in sustainably increasing the platform’s reach and visibility.
A user-centered approach was at the heart of the development process. Extensive testing and workshops resulted in a design tailored to the target audience. The platform is based on open datasets from the Senatsverwaltung für Arbeit, Soziales, Gleichstellung, Integration, Vielfalt und Antidiskriminierung (SenASGIVA). An automated database and an online form simplify the maintenance and updating of services.
How does Fairgnügen work?
Fairgnügen is barrier-free, intuitive, and multilingual. Users can browse offers in categories such as Culture, Sports, Education & Counseling, and Leisure, and view them clearly on an interactive map—perfect for finding activities in their own neighborhood. Favorites can be saved and quickly accessed later. Fairgnügen is available on all devices, requires no registration, and is easy to use.
Whats next?
The focus for the platform’s further development is on continuously optimizing the application and expanding it with new user-friendly features. A key step for the future is the sustainable integration of the platform into Berlin’s administrative structures, particularly by clarifying long-term hosting and operational responsibilities.
