Ljubljana shows how people-friendly city centers, reduced traffic, and a strong focus on public space work in practice. A car-free historic city center and plenty of green spaces are part of everyday life there. This makes the city the perfect location for the Urban Future Conference 2026.

26.03.: Exciting: The Daily Grind of Change. Leading the change from within, Dr. Benjamin Seibel, 11:00 – 12:30, Room Helsingborg
The transformation doesn’t happen through big plans alone – it happens in everyday work and in the many small and big decisions made inside city administrations. It depends on workplace culture and on the people pushing change from different roles, from civil servants and team leaders to project managers and politicians. This session explores how to build the kind of leadership that enables cities to change from the inside – because to truly transform a city, you first have to transform its leaders.
26.03.: Service Design in Action – How to design better public services, Dr. Niklas Kossow, Lisa Schmechel, Yannick Müller, 14.00 – 15.30, Room Arena
Service Design has become an important set of tools to advance inclusive and needs-oriented project development. As such it already plays an important role in many urban development contexts and has the potential to change how we approach public challenges. Service design can help to foster active participation of citizens and support the acceptance of change. We have indepth field experience in using these methods in the context of transformative digitalization projects. In the session we aim to provide valuable insights into the use of these tools based on real life examples from CityLAB Berlin. We also aim to complete the session with a practical exercise to help participants to transfer learnings into their daily practice.
All sessions will be held in English.
