Open Data Barcamp 2026 Hamburg

22. April 2026, 9am - 4pm

The Bertelsmann Stiftung invites you to the 5th Open Data Barcamp on 22 April 2026, from 9 am to 4 pm in Hamburg. With the Open Data Barcamp, the Bertelsmann Stiftung aims to provide a space for knowledge exchange and networking among open data practitioners and those interested in the field.

Everyone interested in open data is welcome – particularly from public administration and civil society organisations. In recent years, there has been a strong focus on open data in municipalities. This year, the barcamp will once again highlight civil society organisations, which play an important role both as providers of valuable data and as users of open government data.

And of course, we won’t be missing! You can find us at the following session:

From Data to Value – A User-Centred Perspective on Open Data
Klemens Maget, Tim Schnettker

Open data can enrich discussions, enable better decision-making, and open up new future scenarios – provided that people can actually understand and use it.

However, many datasets remain difficult to access if they cannot be meaningfully interpreted without technical or domain-specific prior knowledge. Simply publishing data is therefore not enough to unlock its full potential; what matters is making it accessible and understandable for specific target groups.

The Open Data Engagement Shell Framework (ODES) addresses this gap by systematically capturing the needs of different user groups. It provides a foundation for a usage-oriented approach to data provision that strengthens the usability and impact of open data.

Registration is open until 10 April.
