How can digital tools contribute to historical transparency – and make access to cultural knowledge more equitable?
Join us on June 12th, from 6:00–8:00 PM at CityLAB Berlin for an interactive workshop by Decolonize Berlin on the open-source project “We Want Them Back”.
The app provides respectful, accessible information about ancestral human remains from colonial contexts stored in German institutions. It’s an attempt to use digital infrastructure for greater transparency and accountability – and to invite discussion around digital remembrance and responsibility.
Together with the team from Visual Intelligence, we’ll explore the technical background, present the open code, and invite participants to test and discuss the application.
This event is for anyone interested in civic tech, open data, digital culture, and public interest innovation – from designers and developers to curators, administrators, and engaged citizens.
Note: This is a civic initiative and not part of formal restitution processes.
