What if we could experience the sensory worlds of other creatures to understand how they are affected by urban heat? In this thermal walk, we will hack our human-centered senses to get to know the perceptual worlds of other species and perceive the urban microclimate differently. We will trace the sensory worlds of butterflies and squirrels along a selected route in Schöneweide.
Participants will learn how the urban heat affects the well-being of humans and other living creatures. The aim of this walk is to broaden the human experience of the city and promote sensory connections with non-human heat environments. And ultimately to increase empathy towards our fellow species with whom we share the city. This is the key to redesigning climate-sensitive and heat-resilient landscapes in Berlin – for multiple species to thrive and coexist.
