Theme Day: Urban Gardening

26.08.2023, 1pm - 8pm

Urban gardening, from community gardens to balcony greening: from beginners to advanced gardeners, everyone is invited to spend 26 August with us at the Kiezlabor. We invite initiatives, real urban gardening professionals to present their activities, to network with each other and to find new fellow participants. This is a wonderful opportunity to find out about current projects and learn about their aims and ideas. Maybe you discover an initiative that you would like to get personally involved in!

In the afternoon, there will be workshops to participate in!

First we want to build a simple watering system with a pumping device that provides the plants with moisture while we are away. We will explain everything step by step – technology, design and a little programming. Materials from your own household can also be recycled. We are looking forward to interested participants. No previous knowledge necessary, the workshop is intended as an introduction to the world of DIY watering systems.

Afterwards you will learn how to make your own compost! In this workshop, Terra Preta soil practitioner Ayumi will share the simplest way, called the “sandwich system” of Terra Preta substrate creation. If you want to improve your home compost system or compost box in your small garden, or reduce household waste, or start a compost group in your neighbourhood, this is the workshop for you. We invite participants to bring their own organic waste, such as kitchen scraps, and explore what can be transformed and how to go about it.

Afterwards, we will prepare delicious food together with Über den Tellerrand e.V., all in and around the Kiezlabor.

Schedule:

1pm – 7pm: Markt der Möglichkeiten (Market of opportunities – Connect with neighbourhood urban gardening projects, community gardens and allotment associations)

2pm – 4pm: Workshop: Goldener Daumen (Workshop: Golden Thumb – Build your own watering system)

4pm – 6pm: Workshop: Kompostieren mit der Terra Preta-Methode (Workshop: Composting with the Terra Preta Method – Learn to transform organic materials from the environment into fertile soil with Ayumi Matsuzaka)

We look forward to spending the day with you!
